This introductory workshop focuses on critical and constructivist qualitative methods, with an eye toward understanding their influence on research design, data collection, analysis, and publication. Although the workshop teaches skills related to critical-constructivist grounded theory methods (Levitt, 2021), an approach amenable to a wide variety of aims, many of the skills taught hold relevance to a range of qualitative methods. Experiential exercises are incorporated and adaptations to specific research questions are discussed throughout. In this way, attendees learn about the influence of epistemological perspectives on design, learn one qualitative method, and develop skills that pertain to others.
