Clare Mehta, PhD

Dr. Clare M. Mehta is Professor of Psychology at Emmanuel College in Boston, a Staff Scientist in the Division for Adolescent Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, and an academic visitor at Royal Holloway University of London in the UK. Dr. Mehta holds a Master’s of Research in Education from the University of Bath (UK), and a Master’s of Science and PhD in Lifespan Developmental Psychology from West Virginia University. Dr. Mehta is a lifespan developmental psychologist whose area of expertise is adult development. Her main research area is established adulthood, the developmental period between ages 30-45, during which there is a pile up of both professional and social demands. Dr. Mehta’s work has been published in top tier journals including American Psychologist, Developmental Review, and Review of General Psychology, and has been featured in the New Yorker, The Atlantic, the New York Times and NPR. Dr. Mehta is president of the European Society for Research on Adult Development, and past president of the American Psychological Association’s Division 1, the Society for General Psychology and Interdisciplinary Inquiry. Her book titled “Established Adulthood: Navigating the Complex Years of the 30s and 40s” is available from Oxford University Press.
