Renato F. L. Azevedo, PhD

Dr. Renato F. L. Azevedo is an Assistant Professor at the College of Public Health, University of Georgia, whose work sits at the intersection of cognition, decision-making, aging, and health, with a focus on designing health technologies and health communication to support aging populations.  
  
Dr. Azevedo earned his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, with a focus on Cognitive Sciences of Teaching and Learning and Educational Statistics, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He completed his postdoctoral training at the Human Factors and Aging Laboratory, College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). 

His work focuses on the design, development, and use of human-centered technological interventions and data visualizations to facilitate positive behavior change, support effective decision-making, and promote health, education, and wellness, including efforts to reduce inequities through technology. 

Dr. Azevedo has contributed to NIH-funded multidisciplinary research, including leading a site for a randomized controlled trial focused on improving medication adherence among hypertensive older adults and collaborating on projects redesigning health technologies for individuals with mild cognitive impairment. 

He holds leadership roles within the American Psychological Association (Division 21 - Applied Experimental & Engineering Psychology), where he serves as a representative of members-at-large (2023–2026) and Program Chair (2025 and 2026), as well as voted as Upcoming President-Elect (2027). He is also active in the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), serving as Communication Chair for the Product Design Technical Group and Academic Co-Chair for the 2026 Student mHealth Design Competition.
