The Ethics of Multicultural Therapy

Multicultural therapy is of vital importance in the development and provision of effective, ethical practice to a variety of clients. Fundamental knowledge and skills are required for efficacious practice. Although it is a stand-alone theory, key elements must be integrated with other theories to increase effectiveness in working with multicultural populations. A commitment to multicultural therapy is inextricably interwoven with an ethical commitment to social justice, which recognizes that living in an unjust system creates many of the problems the individual must address and with which they have to cope.
