Tara Behrend, PhD

John Richard Butler II Professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations, Michigan State University

Tara Behrend is John Richard Butler II Professor in the School of Human Resources and Labor Relations at Michigan State University, where she directs the Future of Work Initiative. She is a former Program Director for the National Science Foundation, with responsibility for the Science of Organizations and Future of Work at the Human-Technology Frontier programs. She is a Board Member of the National Academies Board on Human-Systems Integration. Dr. Behrend is Past-President of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (APA Division 14). Her research is focused on the ways that technology can be used to support human flourishing in the workplace and beyond. She has published extensive work, including three books, on the topics of STEM career development, training, surveillance, and assessment. Dr. Behrend is a fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Association for Psychological Science. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from North Carolina State University.
